Traffic Control Combo Course

Introducing… the Traffic Control Combo Course!

Do you like working outdoors in the sunshine and fresh air? Have you ever wanted to put on a pair of safety boots, a hard hat and a fluro orange high-vis vest for work? Are you someone who is always on-the-ball and ready for anything? Then this traffic controller course is for you!

What is the Traffic Controller Combo course you might ask? Well, it is a 3-day course, priced at $699, and will allow you to work competently as a traffic controller on construction sites with ‘slow’ and ‘stop’ signs, as well as allowing you to set up and prepare sites as required. The course takes place at Sydney Olympic Park and includes theory training, self-paced learning, practical training and an assessment on a real worksite.

The importance of Traffic Controllers on construction sites is significant. Why? Because over the 12 years from 2003 to 2015, 583 road transport workers died from injuries sustained at work. Construction sites often pose great risks to surrounding workers and oncoming traffic, with trucks and vehicles constantly rolling in and out of sites, machinery almost always in use and cranes carrying heavy objects in operation. Hence, the need for traffic controllers is integral to ensure the safety of traffic flow both in, and around, construction sites.

Now, what happens once you have completed the course? Once you have been deemed competent, you will be issued with a Statement of Completion (SOC) which is valid for 90 days and enables you to visit a real worksite and complete the workplace assessment, as well as work under supervision. Upon completing the practical assessment, you will receive a Statement of Attainment, which nationally recognizes your ability to work safely, communicate in the workplace, control traffic with ‘slow’ and ‘stop’ signs, use portable traffic control devices, apply risk management processes, implement traffic management plans, and set-up portable traffic control devices.

What will we need from you? As long as you are at least 17 years old, you will be able to successfully complete this course! On the days of training, we ask students to please bring appropriate PPE including safety boots, a long sleeve shirt, and long pants. Students will also be required to present 100 points of ID, as well as have a valid USI number. Other than that, you’re all good to go!
